food photos – portobello road, london

May 2

Wherever I travel, I love to visit the local markets. Not just antiques and artisan markets where I can purchase a lasting souvenir, but also food markets, despite not being able to take home some fresh produce, local cheeses, or tempting breads (although there is always a bit of sampling to be had at the time). Food markets are such a bountiful source of colourful shapes and interesting textures that I always snap pic or two so I can experience the bounty once home, if only virtually.

Although when conjuring up images of Portobello Road market in London, most would immediately think of the numerous storefronts or merchants that sprout up on market day offering a treasure trove of antiques and collectibles. Or the junk and bric-a-brac vendors further up the road. However, on a recent trip I took these photos of vendors offering an interesting mix of produce, baked goods, savoury foods, or other melanges to enjoy at the moment – or to enjoy through photos at home, calorie free.
