strawberries and sour cream

June 12

Is it that time of year again already? June ushers in strawberry season in Ontario, when those succulent gems of natural sweetness and flavour are in abundance. Whether you pick your own or head to your local market, in my opinion there are no better strawberries than those grown right here in Ontario. If you’re looking to pick your own, the Ontario Berry Growing Association suggests contacting your local grower for availability; they list all of their member farms’ contact information on their web site.

I find one of the most enjoyable ways to eat strawberries is in this simple and quick recipe…

strawberries and sour cream

1/2 cup sour cream (at least medium milk fat content works best i.e. 5% or more – no low fat / no fat!)

1/2 cup milk (skim, 2% work fine)

3 tsp sugar (or more or less to taste)

4 cups  strawberries (or so), hulled and cut into bite-size pieces

In a small bowl, whisk together sour cream, milk, and sugar until well integrated. Place strawberries in a medium sized bowl. Gently stir in sour cream / milk / sugar mixture.  And that’s it – enjoy!
