addled architecture: on the retail front
My first post about addled architecture highlighted examples just down the street here in Toronto. But examples of muddled frontages can be found anywhere one travels, like this example I spied strolling the historic square (námestie) of Michalovce in eastern Slovakia. Western influence is becoming more and more evident in this former Eastern Bloc country, but the progression of a commercial culture can sometimes be errant. The need to move beyond an oppressed past can be short sighted, often resulting in tarnished architectural treasures.
